Welcome to the Towers of Hanoi

Ancient legends tell a tale of doom ..."During the reign of Emperor Fo Hi, there was a temple in Hanoi (Benares) with a dome which marked the center of the world.  Within the dome, shrouded monks moved solid gold disks between needle-points made of cut diamonds, attempting to move all the disks from one needle to another.  The gods had placed 64 disks on one needle at the time of creation, and deemed that when the monks had completed their task, the universe would come to a ghastly end."

Don't worry! According to recursive mathematics, it will take the monks approximately 585,000,000,000 years to accomplish their destructive deed. So that leaves us with plenty of time to play games!

Below is a smaller problem set for you to solve.  You must move the tower of disks from the LEFT peg to the RIGHT peg.  When selecting a disk to move, you can only select the top disk on any of the pegs.  You cannot move a disk onto a smaller disk.

The game allows you to select how many disks you begin with. We suggest that you start with 3 and work your way up. Clicking the TIMER box will start a clock with your first move so that you can time yourself. Enjoy!
